Interreligious Dialogue in our Day: 60 Years after Nostra Aetate
The Columban Centre for Christian-Muslim Relations and the Diocese of Parramatta are hosting Cardinal Michael Fitzgerald M.Afr. OBE for a free public lecture:
Title: “Interreligious Dialogue in our Day: 60 Years after Nostra Aetate”
Date and Time: 6.00 pm, Wednesday 8 May 2024
Venue: Cathedral Cloisters, 1 Marist Place, Parramatta
Cardinal Fitzgerald the former President of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue will talk on the developments inspired by Vatican II's Nostra Aetate, the prophetic document which ushers in a new era of Catholic relations with people of other religions. The Church's teaching and practice of interreligious dialogue developed dramatically over these past 60 years but largely remains "a hidden treasure" which needs to be discovered.
This is an exciting opportunity to hear from one of the architects and leading exponents of the Catholic Church’s teaching and attitudes towards believers from other religions
Welcome to St Anthony's
St. Anthony's in the Market-place is exactly that. The church is nestled amongst the shops and close to the main western railway line in the town of Toongabbie NSW. The name Toongabbie comes from the Aboriginal language and it means: the Meeting of the Waters or Near the Water.
The parishioners and parish team of St Anthony of Padua in Toongabbie acknowledge the Toogagal people of the Dharug nation, the Traditional Owners who have walked upon and cared for this land for thousands of years. We acknowledge the continued deep spiritual attachment and relationship of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to this country and commit ourselves to the ongoing journey of Reconciliation.
We are a Catholic Christian Community striving to be a place of welcome and belonging and participative worship. We aspire to be sensitive to those who feel isolated and alienated. Self-help groups as well as other faith-community groups fulfil a big need in nurturing people and providing people with meaning and a belief-system.
The Sunday Eucharist is at the core of our faith. By following the Common Lectionary over a three year cycle, our community opens the Scriptures to reveal the wonder of Christ still working to bring about His Kingdom. The other Sacraments of the Church - Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Reconciliation, Marriage, Ordination and the Anointing of the Sick mark God's blessing on us at key moments in our lives as Catholics.
As a community, we seek to grow in a maturing relationship with Jesus Christ. You are invited to find out more by exploring this website or calling the Parish Office on (02) 9631-3316.
